The “4-way shuttle” designation refers strictly to horizontal mobility, where the robot moves in four distinct directions (forward, backward, left, right) on the racking rail network. This omnidirectional movement allows rapid access to any palletized goods position in high-density configurations.

On the other hand, the term “3D shuttle” emphasizes complete spatial mobility. In addition to the horizontal X and Y axes, the shuttle uses a series of vertical lifts to move along the Z axis, between different levels of the structure. The equipment thus navigates in a completely independent three-dimensional volume, eliminating the need for traditional stacker cranes on each aisle.
